All-electric 7 Series – BMW i7 EV in Malaysia, xDrive60 M Sport

The all-electric (EV) BMW i7 has been spotted once again in Kuala Lumpur. The unit seen here is in the M Sport guise with gloss black treatment on the exterior.

Note that the BMW i7 is not launched in Malaysia yet and these units are part of BMW Malaysia’s fleet for internal use and evaluation purposes.

As the xDrive60 badge denotes, the powertrain consists of two electric motors on the front and rear axle, giving it all-wheel drive (AWD) capability, and outputs 544 PS/745 Nm. 0-100 km/h sprint time is claimed at 4.7 seconds.

It packs a 101.7 kWh battery that enables a WLTP range of up to 625 km. Max AC and DC charging are rated at 11 kW and 195 kW respectively.

Unlike the Mercedes-Benz EQS with a dedicated EV platform, the BMW i7 sits on the Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform that is shared with the 2023 BMW 7 Series.

From what we’re able to observe, the two units seen parked side-by-side are not equipped with the massive 31-inch 8K resolution screen which extends downwards from the roof. Though these may not be representative of the actual specifications when it is launched here.

Inside, there’s the BMW Curved Display that blends the 12.3-inch information display and 14.9-inch control display, which is based on the new BMW Operating System 8.

The BMW i7 is expected to make its official launch in Malaysia soon, as the car has been spotted on the road and registration of interest has been open since mid-2022.
