Signs and Symptoms of PTSD

Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a common disorder. People are believed to have PTSD when they feel intense fear, horror, or helplessness after a traumatic event. The triggering events of PTSD can be anything such as any road accident a person experienced in the past, the event of losing someone close, war or torture, and so on.

People with PTSD often experience feelings of panic or extreme fear. This fear may be similar to how they felt during the traumatic event. The following are the four primary types of PTSD experiences:

Re-living the traumatic event

The person with PTSD may relive the bad event again and again. The recurring memories and flashbacks will keep torturing the person and the condition will aggravate further. The person will have intense emotional or physical reactions when reminded of the event.

Being overly alert

Due to this condition, the person may find it difficult to have a peaceful sleep, he will feel irritable, and also find it hard to concentrate. He will become easily startled and constantly on the lookout for any signs of danger.

Avoid reminders of any event

The person with PTSD will purposely avoid going to social events, they will avoid reminders for any parties, social gatherings, thoughts or feeling associated with the event that bring back painful memories in their lives.
