During the launch of the BYD Atto 3, Andrew Basham, Managing Director of Sime Darby Motors, announced that the first BYD showroom will be opened in Malaysia this month. The company expects the number to grow to 20 by end of 2023.
Most of the showrooms will be 3S (sales, service, and spare parts) centres. The first showroom, located at TREC KL, is expected to come online as early as mid-December 2022.
“I’m happy to announce that Sime Darby Motors will have their first BYD experience centre here in Malaysia at TREC in KL starting in the middle of this month, followed by three more in Ara Damansara, Penang, and Johor,” said Basham.
“With the entry of dealer partners, we expect the number of BYD experience centres to grow to 20 by the end of 2023, and double that by the end of 2024,” he added.
Basham also said that half a billion Ringgit (RM 500 million) has been earmarked on the expansion plan of BYD. “With the rapid expansion of dealer network points, BYD passenger cars will contribute about 600 new job opportunities in Malaysia,” said Basham.
